Most Popular Books by Neil Gaiman

One of the most popular dark fantasy authors of today is without a doubt, Neil Gaiman. We have seen multiple movies, cartoons, and TV shows based on his books and graphic novels, and they all had a spectacular or at least a decent reception. In other words, if you haven’t had a chance to read any of his books so far, you should definitely do so. They are real page-turners and don’t actually take too long to complete.

You should really give them a try even if you are not a huge fan of dark fantasy because the essence of the story is always captivating. Here we will go over some of his more popular works, which is a good starting point for someone who has not read any of the stories so far.

Coraline

If you love animated movies, you have probably heard or watched Coraline as it was released back in 2009. On the surface, it looks like a scary children’s book, but it’s also something adults can enjoy, and even get the chills. It’s a story of a girl who moves to a new neighborhood and is then lured into a new world through a mirror. In this new world, everyone has buttons for eyes, and they want to trap her there forever.

The Graveyard Book

Both title and a story are a nod to another popular story, The Jungle Book. That alone gives you a pretty good idea of what’s story is going to be like. It’s about a boy who lost his family and now grows up in a completely different environment or in this case in a graveyard. He is brought up by supernatural creatures that live there, like ghouls, vampires, and ghosts, and he also learns to use some of those supernatural powers.

Good Omens

Good Omens was written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, and it’s a book that is massively popular even today. It’s a supernatural comedy that starts off as a parody of The Omen and then turns into so much more than that. The protagonists are an angel and a demon, Aziraphale, and Crowley, who have been friends for a very long time. The main plot point revolves around a baby swap, and they basically watch the story unfold from that point.

American Gods

It’s one of the most popular books by Gaiman, and it also has an amazing TV series. Although the main protagonist leaves much to be desired, the other characters are really fun and interesting and drive the plot forward. It starts as a road trip story, where an ex-convict is trying to find his place in the world, but it soon escalates into so much more.
